YouTube Gains Over 200 Million Views a Day from Mobile Users

YouTube, the world biggest video-sharing site announced a new milestone they just reached last week - YouTube now exceeds 200 million views a day on mobile, which has increased 3 times from January 2010.


YouTube said that, visits from mobile users has been continually rising since the app YouTube 2.0 for Android launched. YouTube 2.0 is the new version of YouTube's app for Android mobiles. The new Android-based app enables users to watch VEVO's music video on Android handsets. To use YouTube 2.0, your Android operating system needs to be 2.2 (Froyo) or above (Ginger, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich).


"As the world goes mobile and more people watch videos on their smart phones, we expect more partners will take advantage of these new mobile advertising capabilities and make more of their content available across more devices", so said by YouTube Mobile Product Manager Andrey Doronichev in YouTube Official Blog.


According to Wikipedia, VEVO is a music video website. It's joint venture between Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, and Abu Dhabi Media with EMI licensing its content to the group without taking an ownership stake. The service was launched officially on December 8, 2009. The videos on VEVO are syndicated across the web, with Google and VEVO sharing the advertising revenue.


The YouTube 2.0 app also supports 15 seconds pre-roll ads on mobile content partners' videos. This brings more profits to YouTube partners including VEVO and other groups or individuals.
